DESCRIPTION
BULB:
ovoid, 20-24 x 20-25 mm, scales white.

broadly ovate, 30-45 x 17-25 mm; nectary processes 2, of fleshy,
cushionlike projections of tissue. Filaments nearly subulate, 8-11 mm,
tapering from slightly widened base to filiform apex; anthers 7-8 mm; ovary
6-7 × 2-3 mm; Style 2-4 mm, usually shorter than ovary (=> N.
aperta usually longer than ovary). Capsule oblong,
17-18 x ~18 mm. Flowering time Jun-Aug, fruits Aug-Sep. 2 n = 24.

1-7; Tepalen weiss bis pink, ausgebreitet, mit 1 dunkelpurpurnen Fleck
an der Basis und reichlich gefleckt oder gepunktet am Grund, ganzrandig;
äussere (schmal) elliptisch, 35-52 x 16-20 mm; innere elliptisch bis
breit-oval, 30-45 x 17-25 mm; 2 Nektarienfortsätze bestehend aus 2
fleischigen, polsterartigen Auswüchsen. Filamente pfriemartig, 8-11 mm,
sich von verdickt an der Basis auf fädig verjüngend; Antheren 7-8 mm;
Ovar 6-7 x 2-3 mm; Stylum 2-4 mm, kürzer als Ovar (=> N.
aperta normalerweise länger als Ovar). Kapsel länglich,
17-18 x ~18 mm. Blütezeit Jun-Aug, Reife Aug-Sep. 2n=24.

China (NW Yunnan, Sichuan, Xizang) N Myanmar. Forest margins, grassy
slopes; 2800-4500 m.

PECULIARITIES:
According to recent DNA analyses (Nishikawa et al.; Gao et al. yet
unpubl.), N.
aperta (and, in consequence, also the other Nomocharis
species) seems to be so closely related to the Genus Lilium
that a fusion of the two genera seems to be appropriate.

BESONDERHEITEN:
Aufgrund neuerer DNA-Analysen (Nishikawa et al., Gao et al. noch nicht
publ.) scheint N.
aperta (und daher auch die anderen Nomocharis-Arten)
so nahe mit Lilium verwandt, dass eine Zusammenlegung der Gattung
angebracht erscheint.

CULTURE NOTES:
All Nomocharis species are definitely not for the "beginner"! They
need plenty of
moisture, especially during growing season, light shade, a moist, cool, humus
rich, acidic compost
and high athmosperic humidity. Not very hardy, -10°C might be the
temperatruer minimum they tolerate.

KULTURHINWEISE:
Alle Nomocharis-Arten sind nicht für "Anfänger"
geeignet! Sie benötigen
ausreichend Wasser, vor allem in der Wachstumszeit, lichten Schatten, einen feuchten,
kühlen, humosen, sauren Boden sowie hohe Luftfeuchtigkeit. Nicht
sehr winterhart, -10°C scheint die Toleranzgrenze zu sein.
