DESCRIPTION

BULB: ovoid-globose, 3-7 cm in diameter; scales cream-white.

BESCHREIBUNG

Zwiebel: rundlich, 3-7 cm im Durchmesser; Schuppen creme-weiss.

STEM: 30-80 cm, straight, rooting.

Stängel: 30-80 cm, aufrecht, wurzelnd.

LEAVES: densely spirally scattered, narrowly linear, with short hairy margin, 30-80 x 8-20 mm.

Blätter: dicht spiralig verteilt, schmal-linear, mit kurz behaartem Rand, 30-80 x 8-20 mm.

FLOWERS: 1-5, in a raceme, nodding, shiny texture, unpleasent scent. Tepals strongly revolute (flat turk´s cap shape), bright to deep yellow, densely spotted brown, 34-45 x 5-9 mm. Filaments papillous(!), Anthers brown; pollen orange. Seeds immediate hypogeal germination. Flowering time ~July. 2n=??(24?).

Blüten: 1-5, in einer Rispe, nickend, glänzende Textur, unangenehmer Geruch. Tepalen rückwärts gerollt (flache Türkenbundform), hell bis dunkelgelb, dicht braun gepunktet, 34-45 x 5-9 mm. Filamente papillös(!), Antheren braun, Pollen orange. Samen sofortige unterirdische Keimung. Blütezeit ~Juli. 2n=??(24?).

ORIGIN: N-E Turkey (Rize, Trabzon), Georgia, Central Caucasus. On mountain meadows, bushy slopes, thickets, frequently in the near of rivers.

Herkunft: N-O-Türkei (Rize, Tabzon), Georgien, Zentralkaukasus. Auf Bergwiesen, bushcigen Hängen, Dickichten, oft in der Nähe von Fliessgewässern.

PECULIARITIES: Subsection 3b of Section Candidum is yet a little bit confusing since the species and varieties have often been mixed up or renamed producing a lot of confusion. CULTURE NOTES: Prefers warm humus rich, limey sites; rather easy to cultivate.

KULTURHINWEISE: Bevorzugt einen warmen, humosen, kalkhaltigen Standort; recht einfach in Kultur.

var. artvinense: Local variant of Turkish province Artvin with orange flowers and smaller habit / Lokale Variante aus der Türkischen Provinz Artvin mit orangen Blüten und schmalerem Habitus.
