DESCRIPTION

BULB: white, ovoid-globose, 25-35 x 20-35 mm.

BESCHREIBUNG

Zwiebel: weiss, rundlich, 25-30 x 20-28 mm.

STEM: 25-90 cm.

Stängel: 25-90 cm.

LEAVES: proximal ones alternate, distal ones whorled, elliptic to lanceolate-elliptic, 25-70 x 10-30 mm.

Blätter: untere verteilt, obere quirlig, elliptisch bis lanzettlich-elliptisch, 25-70 x 10-30 mm.

FLOWERS: 1 to several. Tepals white to pink, usually with a dark purple blotch at base; outer ones spotted purple-red, ovate, 25-35 x 12-20 mm, margin entire; inner ones densely or laxly spotted or blotched purple-red, ovate-orbicular, 20-30 x 15-20 mm, usually only slightly longer than broad (=> N. meleagrina usually ~1.5 x longer than broad), margin erose or lacerate; nectary processes 2, of purple-red, fleshy ridges of tissue arranged in a fan shape. Filaments swollen, cylindric, 6-7 mm, and fleshy proximally, abruptly narrowed to a filiform, 2-2.5 mm long portion distally. Style 6-8 mm. Flowering time May-Jul, fruits Jul-Aug. 2 n = 24.

Blüten: 1 bis mehrere. Tepalen weiss bis pink, meist mit einem dunkelpurpurnen Fleck an der Basis; äussere purpurrot gepunktet, oval, 25-35 x 12-20 mm, ganzrandig; innere mehr oder weniger purpurrot gepunktet oder gefleckt, rund-oval, 20-30 x 15-20 mm, normalerweise nur wenig länger als breit (=> N. meleagrina usually ~1.5 x länger als breit), Rand fransig-gezahnt; 2 Nektarienfortsätze bestehend aus purpurroten Kanten, die einen Fächer bilden. Filamente verdickt, zylindrisch, 6-7 mm, fleischig an Basis, dann abrupt fädig verschmälert, dort 2-2,5 mm lang. Stylum 6-8 mm. Blütezeit Mai-Juli, Reife Jul-Aug. 2n=24.

ORIGIN: China (SW Sichuan, NW Yunnan). Abies Forest margins, grassy slopee; 2700--4100 m.

Herkunft: China (Sichuan, SE Xizang, NW Yunnan). Abies(=Tannen)-Wälder, Laubwälder, Waldränder, grasige Hänge; 2800-4000 m.

PECULIARITIES: According to recent DNA analyses (Nishikawa et al.; Gao et al. yet unpubl.), N. aperta (and, in consequence, also the other Nomocharis species) seems to be so closely related to the Genus Lilium that a fusion of the two genera seems to be appropriate.

BESONDERHEITEN: Aufgrund neuerer DNA-Analysen (Nishikawa et al., Gao et al. noch nicht publ.) scheint N. aperta (und daher auch die anderen Nomocharis-Arten) so nahe mit Lilium verwandt, dass eine Zusammenlegung der Gattung angebracht erscheint.

CULTURE NOTES: All Nomocharis species are definitely not for the "beginner"! They need plenty of moisture, especially during growing season, light shade, a moist, cool, humus rich, acidic compost and high athmosperic humidity. Not very hardy, -10°C might be the temperatruer minimum they tolerate.

KULTURHINWEISE: Alle Nomocharis-Arten sind nicht für "Anfänger" geeignet! Sie benötigen ausreichend Wasser, vor allem in der Wachstumszeit, lichten Schatten, einen feuchten, kühlen, humosen, sauren Boden sowie hohe Luftfeuchtigkeit. Nicht sehr winterhart, -10°C scheint die Toleranzgrenze zu sein.
